It's a small point but I'm not sure why this story is being passed around when it contains these inconsistences. IRC nicks have been maximum of 9 characters for as long as the RFC1459 (1993), so he could have used "deadmouse" easily enough, aside from which even if he had discovered an IRC server with max nick length of 8 characters, he could have used "deadmaus" so the story basically doesn't hold up.
